Luigi Mangione’s manifesto was decidedly underwhelming. There was no sprawling Unabomber-esque vision to unpack. But this appears to have been the whole point. The document is intended to state the obvious. The cursory tone and haphazard phrasing are a choice, a hard pass on try-hard aestheticized messaging in the “still waters run deep” tradition. In Luigi’s mind, there’s no reason for him to waste energy on a spectacle. Even a fool should be able to see the light here. This is the opposite of rocket science. Not all convincing requires persuasion. The document is a formality because it wants you to see it that way.
